We’re also proud to lead the Historic Center Project, an ongoing effort dedicated to preserving and enhancing one of California’s most treasured historic landmarks for future generations. Ghost and Legends Walking Tours
Step back in time and experience the stories that built San Juan Capistrano on one of our Historical Walking Tours. Guided by knowledgeable docents, these engaging tours explore the city’s iconic landmarks, hidden treasures, and the people and events that shaped its rich heritage. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong resident, our walking tours offer a fascinating journey through the history, architecture, and culture that make San Juan Capistrano a truly unique destination.
Historic Photo Archive Program
In the early 1990s the Society began its Archive Program. The archives include the more than 6,000 plus photo collection, library, genealogical records, oral histories, artifacts and general files. The archives are located at the museum and are available to researchers, media and students. The Historical Society is always interested in acquiring contributions of photos and other items of unique history from San Juan Capistrano and the surrounding area for preservation. Funds for the support of preserving contributions are always greatly appreciated.

Los Rios Histortic Center Project
The San Juan Historical Society continues to expand to create the Los Rios Historical Center. In addition to the O’Neill Museum located in the Garcia/Pryor House, the Center currently includes the Arley Leck house, the Silvas Adobe and the tiny Oyharzabal building.
These homes will become Museums for historic depictions, archival resources, gallery exhibits and special events. Contributions for this program would be most appreciated.

Join the SJC Historical Society
Membership in the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society gives you the quarterly Journal, information on activities and events of the Society, and the satisfaction knowing you are helping to preserve the past for future generations. Membership dues are a major source of income for the Society and help to continue its programs, operate and preserve the O’Neill Museum, and continue to collect and add to the historical archives.
